Autism
Autism is a multi factorial disorder of unknown aetiopathogenesis
which is spreading, both in the UK and across the developed world.
The condition appears to be closely associated with genetic inherited
traits, environmental insults, immunological, digestive and neurological
systems.
How can nutritional therapy help?
Whilst there may be other areas that could greatly assist future
development of treatment for ASD, as clinical nutritionists we believe
that specific and appropriate nutritional intervention is the fundamental
area in which treatment should begin.
We explore the relationship between autism and a number of factors
that include:
- Inadequate and sub-optimal food intake
- Digestion and absorption
- Intolerances and/or allergies
- Imbalanced gut microflora
- Alterations to the common mucosal immune system
- Inadequate toxin neutralisation and elimination
We use scientific testing to identify one or more specific imbalances
that may contribute to the underlying causes of the
lack of optimal
functioning.
Appropriate treatment then includes the correction of identified
imbalances, where possible with natural nutritional
means as opposed
to use of psychoactive medications.
We recognise that whilst there are often commonalities in the ASD
condition, everyone is a unique individual and we aim at providing a
tailored programme for each person we treat.
We also recognise that our current understanding and treatment
options represent a "work in progress" situation and to that end
we
look at all new ideas and concepts and remain open to others'
research
and experiences.
I will be glad to offer a short period of discussion with you
to help you to decide if you would like to undertake investigation
and treatment. Please feel free to contact me on 01258 818
